We've put together some pointers below, to give you a helping hand...

1. The photo

Arguably the most important part of your advert - it's what gets peoples attention when they're scrolling through the listings. So it's worth putting some time and effort in to get the right one.

Some ideas:

  • Purchase a digital copy of a competition photo from a photographer

  • Have a 'photo shoot' day at the yard - putting the effort in to give them a bath, pop on some hoof oil and tidy their mane and tail. And don't forget to photograph them in front of a nice neutral background, rather than the muck heap! Read our guide to getting the perfect conformation photo for your advert here >

  • You don't need a fancy camera - most smartphones take high resolution photos - but make sure you don't compress the file size, or the image isn't blurry or pixellated

  • You don't need to add lots of photos - one or two quality photos will do the trick. Interested parties can contact you to ask for more!

Before your HorseQuest advert goes online, we check every photo and re-size or rotate it accordingly, to make sure it displays perfectly on your advert.

2. The text

Spend some time drafting your advert and then read it back. Would you buy this horse? What questions would you ask if you had read the advert? Think of it as a CV.

Here's some structure to help with your advert:

  • An attention grabbing headline (PS. We've seen a lot of 'top class')

  • 5 key bullet points - think of these as the most important highlights

  • Height, Breed, Age, Colour

    • Description to include: Current working level, results & achievements across all disciplines, potential in other disciplines, temperament, vices, ideal home sought, reason for sale?

    • Don't be afraid to tell a bit of a story - people want to know what sort of home they've come from, and whether they'll be a good fit. HorseQuest adverts all have unlimited text!

3. Videos

With every household owning smartphones and the prospect of travelling the country to view a horse, it's very likely that the first enquiry you're likely to get is asking for videos. So why not add them to your HorseQuest advert from the off?

All HorseQuest adverts include 3 videos free of charge - and don't worry, you don't have to send us a YouTube link. You can send them to us via email or WhatsApp and we'll upload them to YouTube for you.

Videos could include competition footage, training, schooling at home, trotting up or even demonstrating how they are to handle from the ground. The more the better!

4. Location, Contact Details and Price

Location - a quick selection from our drop down list. But this means when people search HorseQuest using our 'Advanced Search' by location, your advert will be included in their results. People like to know how far they would be required to travel!

Contact Details - an obvious one, but make sure to double check the phone number before you place the advert. Give the telephone number that you're most likely to be able to answer, and if you can't answer between certain times, state this on your advert. It's always a good idea to have your voicemail switched on too - so that you can get back to people if you miss their call.

Price - generally speaking, we do recommend putting a price on your advert, rather than POA. This saves you from receiving a number of calls just to find out if the horse or pony is within their budget - so you'll receive real, genuine enquiries. It also means that when people search HorseQuest using our 'Advanced Search' by price, your advert will be included in their results. You can make unlimited changes to your advertising during it's 6 week duration, so you can always revise the price if you're not getting the enquiries you expected.

Once your advert is online

HorseQuest adverts are live on the website for 6 weeks, and during this time you can make unlimited changes. So if you're not getting the response you expected, get in touch! It could just be swapping that main photo that makes all the difference!

You can change the title, price, bullet points and photos or mark your advert as sold via 'My HorseQuest' online. Any text changes to the main description are managed by the HorseQuest team just to ensure your advert formatting remains correct. So just pop us a message or give us a call.
